FAQs

1. What is Chiropractic?

The primary focus of Chiropractic is the optimum function of your spine and nerve system, and its relationship to overall wellbeing.

Your nerve system is your master control system, made of a network of fibres, similar to an electrical wiring system. Interference in the spine may alter the transmission of messages between your brain and any of your body’s muscles, organs, and tissues, affecting control and coordination of systems and function throughout your body.

Chiropractic involves specialised care of your spine and nerve system, and effects how you perceive the world, helping you to better adapt to life and it’s challenging physical, chemical and emotional stresses.

2. What is Network Care?

Network Care is a gentle and specific whole-person approach to Integrative Chiropractic. This contemporary system’s focus is to help what you have work better, rather than trying to “fix” or “take away” a “problem”.

The intention is not to “relieve” symptoms (your body’s warning signals), rather to better understand why they are there, and more efficiently listen to your body’s needs. This process, while not a “pain relief” system, is remarkably effective at helping many feel better amazingly fast.

Network Care sessions involves a process of specific and effective gentle spinal contact touches. Your care sessions are designed to, to cue and engage your brain, with the purpose of enhancing communication between your brain and body. Care advances through levels at particular milestones.

Ultimately, you are expected to gain the ability to feel better, be better and live better; with health enhancing benefits, to improve your quality of your life for the long term. This process liberates a greater range of body-mind resources for self-healing and wholeness.

3. How do I know whether I need to see a Doctor of Chiropractic?

Do you want to thrive, or just survive?  Our whole-person approach to Chiropractic, promotes wellness strategies for you to optimise your function and life, instead of just getting by.

As nerve system stress, like most chronic illness, often has no early warning symptoms; everyone should have their spine checked regularly by a Chiropractor.

Let your Chiropractor give you their professional recommendations, based on your individual circumstances and needs.

The biopsychosocial model views health and illness as the product of biological characteristics (condition and function of the physical body), behavioural factors (lifestyle, stress, health beliefs), and social conditions (cultural influences, family relationships, social support).

7. What is the difference between health and wellness?

There are many views, opinions, definitions and practices of health and wellness. The Diskin Life definitions are as follows:

HEALTH is a state incorporating three essential elements:
1. Integrity: Being “whole” (having all your parts)
2. Function: How efficiently your body and mind works
3. Adaptability: Your ability to respond and cope to a changing (physical, chemical and emotional) environment

WELLNESS is a voluntary contextualisation, considering attitude and degree of resourcefulness (versus resources)
The way you choose to live and respond (or react) to life’s situations, and how you feel about your state or circumstances (how you feel about what you have or have not), and what you make of your circumstances (resourcefulness).

13. Do I need a referral from a medical doctor?

A referral is not required from a medical doctor to see a Doctor of Chiropractic. Doctors of Chiropractic are primary health care providers (the largest primary health care profession in the world, after medicine and dentistry).

14. What about babies, children and pregnant women?

Chiropractic is most appropriate for both these groups. Children are subjected to spinal stresses from their birth, and then everyday from the slips, bumps, falls, and poor posture which all children experience.

The extra stresses of pregnancy and the trauma, which can be associated with the birth process, make Chiropractic care for pregnant women especially important.

Network Care is especially suitable for pregnant women, babies and children, due to it’s incredibly gentle methods.

15. My children are still growing; Is it too early to have their spines checked?

Absolutely not! It is essential for children’s nerve systems be checked for nerve system stress and spinal cord tension at an early age. The earlier developing problems are detected, the more effective care may be expected. Children lead such active lives, constantly jumping, jarring, bumping, falling and much more.

Whilst these activities are a normal part of their development, they may cause stress to a developing nerve system, which may not manifest as symptoms for many years, if ever. Remember; As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.

16. Do Doctors of Chiropractic prescribe drugs?

No! Chiropractic is completely natural, non-invasive, drug and surgery free.

17. Do I need to make an appointment?

Yes! This is so the appropriate time can be allocated for both your and other clients’ convenience.

18. How old is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic began in 1895, over 125 years ago.

19. Are Doctors of Chiropractic registered or licensed practitioners?

Yes! Doctors of Chiropractic must be registered and licensed to practice by the Chiropractors’ Registration Board, under the auspices of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

20. How often do I need to have my spine checked after the first time?

Each person has individual needs, and must be assessed accordingly. Your Chiropractor makes specific tailored recommendations. Waiting for pain before you visit a Chiropractor, is like waiting for your teeth to rot before you see a dentist.

21. I am not suffering pain. Should I still have a regular spinal check-up?

It depends on your attitude and priorities.  Do you proactively exercise, eat well and strive to live in a healthy environment?  Then, having your spine and nerve system checked by a Chiropractor is an wise practice, like regularly seeing your dentist for your teeth before they hurt, or servicing your car to keep it running optimally.

22. Does Insurance cover the cost of Chiropractic care?

You may be able to recover some of your cost through a private insurance fund or third party insurer like TAC or WorkCover. You need to contact the relevant authority, and find out how you specifically are covered.

23. Why is the spine so important?

The spine is the framework, which supports and protects your spinal cord. It is like your body’s communication conduit. Most of your nerves pass from the brain and spinal cord through small openings between the vertebrae (spinal bones); to coordinate all body parts and functions.

Through your nerve system you perceive the world; adapt to stress; express emotion and create our conscious reality. Because of the spine’s complexity, its normal movements may be easily disrupted.

Falls, incorrect lifting, repetitive movements, faulty posture and even your emotional state and your chemical intake may cause disruption to the normal functioning of your spine. These areas of abnormal function typically display spinal cord tension. You don’t need to feel pain to have them.

24. When's the best time to first have my spine professionally assessed by a Doctor of Chiropractic?

As nerve system stress may be caused as early as during the birth process, you should start as young as possible, since the earlier nerve system stress and spinal cord tension are detected, the more effective care may be expected.

25. What is Brain-Based Chiropractic?

Brain-based Chiropractic care is an approach to Chiropractic care focused on improving your brain function, so you can have a healthier and more optional body and a better life.

Brain-based, also referred to as neurologically-based Chiropractic care directs its focus on the proper function of the central nervous (nerve) system and it’s direct connection to all 50 trillion plus cells in your body.

Traditionally, Chiropractic has focused on the spine with the idea that spinal bone misalignments interfere with the nerve signals between your brain and body, and structurally adjusting the spinal column (bones and muscles) reduces the interference.

While this is absolutely valid, brain-based care focuses beyond structural adjustments of the bones and muscles, using a tonal (light touch) approach to directly affect the whole person , including the brain and nervous (nerve) system, to improve the physical, mental and emotional functioning of the body and mind.

Where some Chiropractic approaches look to address the localised symptom, with the intention of primarily relieving that particular site of pain or affected function; the brain-based whole-person approach is about looking at the whole-person in context with or without a particular obvious symptom, or not.

Brain-based whole-person care studies and observes the relationship of all body parts and systems to each other, as interdependent, rather than stand-alone issues.

At Diskin Life, our brain-based whole-person care is offered using our 3-Step Vitality Process.  This 3-step process, in relation to brain-based care, particularly focuses on a thorough understanding of a person often complex history Life Assessment and the Life Upgrades involving specific and gentle series of light touches, synchronizing, retraining and reprograming the nerve system, (so no manipulation, cracking or popping of joints).
